Saints Upset Second Place Bethany, 68-57
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Senior point guard Daniel Whelan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) scored a game-high 17 to points to lead the Thomas More College men's basketball team to a 68-57 upset win over second place Bethany College tonight (Wednesday, February 1, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 14-7 overall and 9-3 in the PAC. With the loss, the Bison fall to 17-3 overall and 9-2 in the PAC.
Bethany raced out to an early 12-6 lead when Leslie Addy made a three-pointer with 14:30 to play in the first half. Thomas More answered with a 9-2 run to take a 15-14 lead on a Whelan three-pointer with 11:58 to play in the half. The Bison responded with a 10-0 run capped by two Brady Pacific three-throws with 7:28 to play in the opening half to take a 24-15 lead. The Saints came right back with a 15-3 run to retake the lead at 30-27 with 1:08 to play in the first half on a Whelan lay-up. Bethany closed out the half on a 5-0 run to take a 32-30 lead at halftime when Reece Mabery made a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Bethany's Nick Wilcox made three-pointer to open the second half at the 19:10 mark of the half to extend the lead to 35-30. Thomas More put together an 8-2 run to take a 38-37 lead with 13:49 to play in the game when senior center Colt Stafford (Groveport, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) made a lay-up. Wilcox converted a three-point play with 13:25 to play in the game and gave the Bison a 40-38 lead. The Saints answered with an 18-5 run to take a 56-45 lead with 7:09 to play in the game when junior small forward Phil Feinberg (Tempe, Ariz./Corona Del Sol) made a lay-up. Bethany responded with a 12-4 run capped by a Wilcox lay-up to cut the lead to 60-57 with 3:28 to play in the game. That would be as close as the Bison would come as Thomas More closed out the game on an 8-0 for the 68-57 victory.
Whelan led four Saints in double-figures as Stafford had 15 points, freshman small forward Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) had 13 points and Feinberg added 10. Feinberg led the team on the boards with seven rebounds, while Mumford led the team in assists with five.
The Saints close out their two-game home stand on Saturday (February 4) when they host first place Thiel College at 3 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

Four Saints Reach Double-Figures in 85-52 Win Over Bethany
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Four Saints scored in double-figures to lead the Thomas More College women's basketball team to an 85-52 win over Bethany College tonight (Wednesday, February 1, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 16-4 overall and 12-1 in the PAC. With the loss, the Bison fall to 12-8 overall and 8-5 in the PAC.
Bethany took an early 5-4 lead when Renee Shepherd made a three-pointer with 17:34 to play in the first half. Thomas More answered with an 8-2 run to take a 12-7 lead with 15:13 to play in the game when junior center Katie Kees (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) made two free-throws. Bethany responded with a 4-0 run capped by a Taylor Verrico three-pointer to cut the lead to 12-11 with 13:34 to play in the game. The Saints came right back with a 16-5 run to increase the lead to 28-16 with 5:02 to play in the opening half when sophomore guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a lay-up. The Bison used a 12-2 run to cut the lead to 30-28 on a Ty Harris jumper with 1:59 to play in the half. Thomas More closed out the half on a 6-0 run to take a 36-28 lead at halftime when junior guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) made a lay-up at the buzzer.

Kitchen led all scorers with 23 points, while Long added 19 and Kees and sophomore guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) each added 10. Kees led the team on the boards with a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double and Beasley led the team in assists with eight, while Kitchen led the team in steals with five.

Thomas More to Induct 10 Into Athletic Hall of Fame
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College Athletic Hall of Fame will grow by 10 on Saturday, February 18, when the 2012 class is inducted into the Hall of Fame. The 2012 Hall of Fame class will bring the total membership in the Thomas More Hall of Fame to 67. The new members are women's basketball player Joanna Bess, men's basketball players Gerry Thelen and Dan Lenihan, volleyball player Leigh Ann Burke, men's tennis player Chris Eilerman, football players Todd Naumann and Mike Strassel, baseball player Noah Welte, women's golfer Lynn Thompson and athletic department administrative assistant Mary Dahloff.
Joanna Bess '04 - Women's Basketball
Bess is found all over the Thomas More record book as she is tied for seventh in scoring with 1,181 points, fifth in assists with 276, seventh in three-point field goal attempts with 308 and eighth in three-point field goal makes with 96. At the time of her graduation, she was the only player in school history to have 1,00 points, 400 rebounds, 300 steals and 200 assists.
Gerry Thelen '61 - Men's Basketball
Thelen started to play basketball halfway through his junior year and played in 27 games as a senior. He averaged 10.6 points per game, pulled down 226 rebounds, was 44-of-66 from the free-throw line and was named to the All-KIAC team. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Royals with the 70th pick in the 1961 ABA (American Basketball Association) draft.
Dan Lenihan '85 - Men's Basketball
Lenihan currently ranks 17th in career points with 1,140 points and eighth in career rebounds with 727. During his senior season he was first on the team in rebounds with 272 and fourth in points with 428. Lenihan was a member of the last Thomas More basketball team to beat Northern Kentucky University and was invited to tryout for the 1984 U.S. Olympic Team, but chose not to attend.
Leigh Ann Burke '94 - Volleyball
Burke is one of the top servers in the Saints' history as she ranks first in career service aces with 284 and single-season service aces with 182. Her teams went 149-40 and were ranked No. 8 in the nation in Thomas More's first year in NCAA Division III in 1991. She also helped lead the team in the NCAA Final Eight in 1992 and 1993.
Chris Eilerman '95 - Men's Tennis
Eilerman was one of the most accomplished men's tennis players to compete at Thomas More. He was a four-time All-AMC first team selection (1992, 93, 94, 95), three-time AMC singles champion (1992, 93, 95) and four time AMC doubles champion (1992, 93, 94, 95). Eilerman was named team Most Valuable Player in 1994 and 1995 and was the team captain in 1995.
Todd Naumann '95 - Football
Nauman is one of the top receivers in Thomas More history as he ranks first in career receptions with 108 and in career total receiving yards with 1,748. He also ranks third in single-season receiving yards with 649 and in career touchdown receptions with 14.
Mike Strassel '02 - Football
Strassel was an All-American offensive lineman for the Saints. Helped anchor an offensive line that blocked the way for 913, 713, 1,736 and 1,116 yard rushers in his four seasons wearing the Royal Blue and White.
Noah Welte '05 - Baseball
Welte was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2003 and 2005 and All-Region in 2003 and 2005. He holds the single-season runs scored record with 57 in 2003 and ranks in the top-10 in seven career categories. Welte was a member of the 2003 NCAA Regional Finalist team that set the school record for wins with 33.
Lynn Thompson '05 - Women's Golf
Thompson won Thomas More's first-ever national championship as she was the 2002 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship at the Orchards Golf Club in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She also was named the Division III Player of the Year and a first team All-American selection by the NGCA and was the golf nominee for the 2001-02 NCAA Division III Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year.
Mary Dahloff - Administrative Assistant
Dahloff is in her 30th year as the administrative assistant in the Thomas More athletic department. She has worked for four athletic directors in the 30 years, including a father and son combination.

Track & Field Teams Finish Ninth at Rose-Hulman Invitational
(TERRE HAUTE, Ind.) - The Thomas More College men's and women's track & field teams both finished ninth today (Saturday, January 28, 2012) at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology Engineer Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana.
The men's team place ninth out of 11 schools with 18.5 points. The men had four top-10 finishes in the meet. Freshman Galen Curry (Datyon, Ohio/Chaminade-Julienne) placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 40'.75" and fourth in the long jump with a jump of 20'7.25". Freshman Zach Kurtz (Mason, Ohio/Bishop Fenwick) placed seventh in the long jump with a jump of 20'1.25", while freshman Ryan Winkler (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) placed eighth in the high jump with a jump of 5'10.75".
The women's team finished ninth out of 10 schools with six points. The Saints had three top-10 finishers as sophomore Andrea Robben (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) placed sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 9'6.25", freshman Kaylin Veeneman (West Harrison, Ind./Franklin County) finished seventh in the long jump with a jump of 15'4.75" and senior Alexa Hlebickzki (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) placed eighth in the long jump with a mark of 14'10.50'.
The Saints return to the track on February 11 when they travel to Anderson, Indiana for the Anderson University Indoor Invitational. Action gets underway at Anderson at 3 p.m.

Stafford Scores 19 to Lead Thomas More To An 84-74 Win at Washington & Jefferson

Washington & Jefferson took an early 19-12 lead when Andy Carter made a three-pointer with 13:16 to play in the opening half. Thomas More answered with a 16-4 run capped by a lay-up by Stafford to take a 28-23 lead with 7:31 to play in the half. The Presidents responded with a 6-0 run to retake the lead at 29-28 with 5:49 to play in the first half when Uchenna Okocha made a jumper. The Saints closed out the first half on a 13-4 run to take a 41-33 lead at halftime when senior point guard Daniel Whelan (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) made a three-pointer with 10-seconds to play in the first half.
W&J opened the second half on a 15-7 run capped by a Zach Bellhy three-pointer to tie the game at 48-48 with 15:55 to play in the game. Thomas More answered with a 28-13 run to build a 76-61 lead with 5:14 to play in the game when Whelan made lay-up. W&J closed out the game on a 13-8 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More won the game, 84-74.
Three other Saints joined Stafford in double-figure scoring as Whelan and sophomore shooting guard Cameron Clemons (Louisville, Ky./Doss) each finished with 15 points and senior shooting guard Todd Krohman (Florence, Ky./Bonne County) added 12 points. Junior small forward Phil Feinberg (Tempe, Ariz./Corona Del Sol) led the team in rebounds with 10 and steals with three.

Washington & Jefferson took an early 4-2 lead when Ashley Kirkpatrick made a jumper with 18:12 to play in the first half. Thomas More answered with a 27-10 run to take a 29-14 lead with 7:06 to play in the opening half when junior guard/forward Lauren Hargett (Verona, Ky./Walton-Verona) made a three-pointer. The Presidents responded with a 16-5 run to cut the lead to 34-30 with 1:19 to play in the half when Kara Seamon made a three-pointer. Feinberg Records Fourth Double-Double in Saints' 73-65 Road Win at Grove City
(GROVE CITY, Pa.) - Junior small forward Phil Feinberg (Tempe, Ariz./Corona Del Sol) recorded his fourth double-double of the season as he scored a team-high 16 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds to lead the Thomas More College men's basketball team to a 73-65 win over Grove City College tonight (Wednesday, January 25, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Grove City College Arena in Grove City, Pennsylvania.
With the win, the Saints improve to 12-7 overall and 7-3 in the PAC. With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 7-11 overall and 3-7 in the PAC.

Corey's First Career Double-Double Leads Thomas More to a 66-52 Win at Grove City
(GROVE CITY, Pa.) - Sophomore forward Moriah Corey (Louisville, Ky./Butler) recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds to lead the Thomas More College women's basketball team to a 66-52 win over Grove City College tonight (Wednesday, January 25, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Grove City College Arena in Grove City, Pennsylvania.
With the win, the Saints improve to 14-4 overall and 10-1 in the PAC. With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 4-14 overall and 3-8 in the PAC.
Thomas More took an early 19-9 lead with 9:45 to play in the first half when Corey made two free-throws. Grove City answered with a 7-0 run capped by a jumper by Hannah Jo Coneby to cut the lead to 19-16 with 8:44 to play in the half. The Saints responded with a 14-7 run to extend the lead to 35-23 when sophomore guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) made a lay-up with 1:24 to play in the opening half. The Wolverines closed out the first half on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 35-29 at halftime when Kelsey Shirey made a lay-up with three-seconds to play in the first half.

Feinberg Scores Career-High 25 Points to Lead Thomas More to a 91-77 Win Over Geneva
(CRESVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Junior small forward Phil Feinberg (Tempe, Ariz./Corona Del Sol) scored a career-high 25 points to lead the Thomas More College men's basketball team to a 91-77 win over Geneva College today (Saturday, January 21, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

Thomas More jumped out to a 34-21 lead with 7:32 to play in the first half when junior power forward Michael Rowan (Goshen, Ky./North Oldham) converted a three-point play. Geneva answered with a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 36-28 with 2:22 to play in the half when Matt Lorello made a lay-up. The Saints responded with a 4-0 run to increase the lead to 40-28 when freshman small forward Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) made a lay-up with 45 seconds to play in half.
