Saints Fall, 81-64, at Transylvania
(LEXINGTON, Ky.) –The Thomas More College men's basketball team fell, 81-61, to Transylvania University today (Saturday, November 29, 2008) in a non-conference game at the Beck Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
With the loss the Saints fall to 3-1 overall and with the win the Pioneers improve to 3-0.
The Pioneers opened the game on a 22-6 run to lead by 16 points with 9:37 to play in the first half when they made a jumper. The Saints then went on a 21-10 run to cut the lead to 32-27 at the 4;07 mark when senior forward Matt Tierney (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) made jumper. Transylvania closed out the half on a 5-2 run to lead 37-30 at halftime.
Transylvania extended its lead to 46-35 with 17:38 before the Saints went on a 9-2 run to cut the lead to 48-44 when junior guard Romell Salone (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) made a jumper at the 14:47 mark. That is as close as the Saints would get as the Pioneers would lead by as many as 23 points when they made two free throws with 53 seconds to play in the game. Transylvania went on to the 81-64 win.
Senior wing Daniel Ellis (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield North) led the Saints with 13 points and sophomore wing Eddie Brown (Hamilton, Ohio/Stephen T. Badin) finished with 11 points. Junior wing Daniel McKeehan (Mainesville, Ohio/Little Miami) led the Saints on the boards with six rebounds and sophomore post Brian Muse (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel) finished with five rebounds.

Thiem Scores 20 Points in Saints’ 73-60 Win Over Calvin
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Senior guard Jayme Thiem (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) scored 20 points to lead the No. 7-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team to a 73-60 win over Calvin College today (Saturday, November 29, 2008) durin the second day of the Seventh Annual Julie Costello Memorical Classic at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win the Saints improve to 4-0 overall and with the loss the Knights fall to 5-1.
The Saints opened the game on a 7-2 run to lead by five with 17:20 to play when Thiem made a lay-up. The Knight came right back with a 7-2 run to tie the score at 9-9 when they made jumper with 14:54 to play in the half. Thomas More responded with a 13-2 run to take its biggest lead of the half at 22-11 when Thiem made a lay-up at the 8:49 mark. Calvin would cut the lead to 24-21 on a lay-up with 5:56 to play in the half. The Saints would close out the half on a 9-2 run to lead33-23 at the half as Thiem made two free-throws with 10 seconds to play in the half.
In the second half the Saints opened on a 25-21 run to lead 58-54 when sophomore center Nicole Dickman (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) made one-of-two free throws with 6:34 to play in the game. Calvin came back with a 16-9 run to cut the lead to 67-60 with 1:07 to play when it made a lay-up. The Saints closed out the game on a 6-0 run capped by a lay-up by senior point guard Gabby Johnson (McCordsville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) with 12 seconds to play for the 73-60 win.
Joining Thiem in double-figures was Dickman with 16 points and Johnson with 14 points. Dickman led the Saints on the boards with seven rebounds, while freshman center Aleesha Faehr (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) finished with six rebounds.

Thiem Leads Saints to a 71-47 Win At Mount St. Joseph
(CINCINNATI, Ohio) – Senior guard Jayme Thiem (Cold Spring, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) scored 16 points to lead the No. 7-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team to a 71-47 win over across-the River rival, the College of Mount St. Joseph tonight (Wednesday, November 26, 2008) at the Harrington Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
With the win the Saints improve to 3-0 overall and with the loss the Lions fall to 1-2 on the season.
The Saints raced out to a 17-9 lead at the 9:49 mark of the first half when Thiem knocked down two free throws. The Lions responded with a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 19-16 when they made a three-pointer with 8:38 to play in the first half. Thomas More then closed out the half on a 21-6 run capped by a lay-up by senior forward Kristen Humphrey (New Richmond, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) with 19 second to play in the half to give the Saints a 40-22 lead at halftime.
In the second half the Saints never let the Lions get as close as 16 points and led by as many as 33 points when freshman Lauren Hargett (Verona, Ky./Walton-Verona) made a lay-up with 3:27 to play to give the Saints a 68-35 lead. The Saints went onto the 71-47 win.
Joining Thiem in double-figures were Humphrey with 14 points, sophomore center Nicole Dickman (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) with 12 and senior guard Gabby Johnson (McCordsville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) with 11. Dickman led the Saints on the boards with six rebounds. The Saints shot 49.1 percent from the field and 82.6 percent from the foul line.

Tinklenberg Scores 20 Points to Lead Saints to 81-70 Win Over Mount St. Joseph
(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) –Senior wing Mark Tinklenberg (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) scored 20 points to lead the Thomas More College women's basketball team to an 81-70 win over across-the River rival, the College Mount St. Joseph tonight (Wednesday, November 26, 2008) at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win the Saints improve to 3-0 overall and with the loss Mount St. Joseph falls to 2-2 on the season.
The Lions raced out to a 13-9 lead when they made a lay-up with 15:25 to play in the first half. Then the Saints responded with a n11-2 run to take a 20-15 lead with 11:41 to play in the first half when Tinklenberg made two free throws. MSJ then went on a 19-6 lead to take a 34-28 lead on at three-pointer at the 4:11 mark of the first half. Thomas More closed out the half on an 11-7 run to make the score 41-39 at the half as senior guard Romell Salone (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) made a three-pointer with 19 second to play in the half.
In the second with the game tied 52-52 at the 14:48 mark the Saints went on a 22-5 run to take a 74-57 lead when Tinklenberg made a lay-up with 6;04 to play in the game. MSJ could only manage to cut the lead to 11 points when they made a lay-up with 35 second to play to make the score 81-70. Then the Saints went onto the 81-70 win.
Joining Tinklenberg in double-figures was junior wing Daniel McKeehan (Mainesville, Ohio/Little Miami) and Salone with 14 points each. Tinklenberg led the Saints on the board with eight rebounds. The Saints shot 61.5 percent from the field as the connected on 32-of-52 shots.

Thomas More wins 2008 Bridge Shootout, snapping three-game losing streak to MSJ

(NAPERVILLE, Ill.) – The Thomas More College football team fell, 44-23, to No. 2-ranked North Central College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs today (Saturday, November 22, 2008) at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium in Naperville, Ilinios.
With the loss the Saints ended the season at 8-3 and with the win the Cardinals improve to 11-0 and will face No. 5-seed Franklin College next week in the second round.
The Saints led, 10-6, after one quarter and then North Central led, 20-10, at halftime and 30-10 after three quarters..
On the opening possession of the game sophomore linebacker Matt Clark (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) recovered a Cardinal fumble and then the Saints went 72-yards in four plays and took a 7-0 lead with 10:13 to play in the first quarter when junior quarterback Trevor Stellman (Burlington, Ky./Conner) scored on a two-yard touchdown run and
sophomore place kicker Dustin Zink (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) added the point-after-attempt.
North Central then cut the lead to 7-6 with 3:59 left in the first quarter when junior running back Dominic Sulo scored on a four-yard touchdown run and the Cardinal’s PAT failed.
The Saints responded and extended the lead to 10-6 when Zink made a 33-yard field goal with 1:26 to play in the first quarter.
The Cardinals then scored 21 unanswered points to lead 37-10 with 13:51 to play in the game.
Then the Saints cut the lead to 37-17 with 11:50 to play when Stellman connected with junior wide receiver Chris Farley (New Albany, Ind./New Albany) on an eight-yard touchdown pass and Zink added the PAT.
The Cardinals then came right back and extended the lead to 44-17 with 10:18 to play on a 58-yard touchdown run.
Freshman punt returner Mercier Doucette (Florence, Ky./Boone County) then returned at point 62-yards as time expired for the final score of 44-23
The Saints were led on the ground by junior running back Cordario Collier (New Albany, Ind./New Albany) who had17 carries for 36 yards. Stellman was 22-of-36 passing for 284 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Junior wide receiver Chris Farley (New Albany, Ind./New Albany) had seven catches for 123 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, the Saints were led by junior linebacker Brad Steinmetz (West Harrison, Ind./East Central) with seven tackles and junior defensive back Josh Schmitz (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) with six.

McKeehan Scores 16 to Lead Four Saints in Double-Figures in a 75-71 Win over Buffalo State
(BUFFALO, N.Y.) – Junior wing Daniel McKeehan (Mainesville, Ohio/Little Miami) scored 16 points to lead four Saints in double-figures as the Thomas More College men’s basketball team defeated Buffalo State University, 75-71, in the first round of the Buffalo State Tip-Off Tournament in Buffalo, New York.
With the win the Saints are 1-0 and with the loss Buffalo State falls to 0-1.
Buffalo State raced out to a 14 point lead when James Tyndal capped a 28-14 run with a jumper at the 6:23 mark of the first half. The Saints then went on a 15-10 run to cut the lead to 36-29 when senior wing Matty Owens (Mason, Ohio/Mason) made a lay-up with 57 seconds to play in the half. Buffalo State would lead, 38-31 at halftime.
The Saints opened the second half with a 24-15 run to take their second lead of the game at 53-51 when McKeehan made a lay-up with 11:21 to play in the game. The game would go back and forth until 2:06 to play when McKeehan made a lay-up to give the Saints the lead for good at 67-65. Then sophomore point guard Kurt Bovard (Villa Hills, Ky./Covington Catholic) gave the Saints’ their biggest lead of the game when hit a three-pointer and they led 70-65 with 1:32 to play in the game. Thomas More hit some free throws down the stretch went onto the 75-71 win.
Joining McKeehan in double-figures were senior forward Mark Tinklenberg (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) with 12 points, sophomore post Brian Muse (Bethel, Ohio/Bethel) with 11 points and Bovard with 10 points. Muse
led the Saints on the boards with seven rebounds, while Owens pulled down six boards.

Gee Leads Saints to 77-39 Season Opening Win over Greenville
(DANVILLE, Ky.) – Senior guard Alex Gee (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este) scored 11 points to lead the Thomas More College women’s basketball team to a, 77-39, season opening win over Greenville College today (Friday,
November 21, 2008) in the Centre College Tip-Off Classic in Danville, Kentucky.
With the win the Saints are 1-0 and with the loss Greenville falls to 0-1.
The Saints opened the game with a 22-3 run capped by two made free-throws by senior point guard Gabby Johnson (McCordsville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) with 12:31 to play in the first half. Greenville pulled with in 13 points at 30-17 with 4:11 to play in the half and then the Saints closed out the half on a 11-0 run to lead 41-17 at halftime as junior
center Claire Noltemeyer (Louisville, Ky./Assumption) scored on a lay-up with five second to play in the half.
The Saints would lead by at least 30 points most of second half and lead by as many as 38 on two occasions when junior guard Rachel Krumpelbeck (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) made a lay-up with 56 seconds to play in the game and then again when junior guard Brandi Mahar (Ashland, Ky./Boone County) made a jumper with 19 seconds to play. The Saints went onto the 77-39 win.
Joining Gee in double-figures was senior guard Jayme Thiem (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) with 10 points. Johnson, senior forward Kristen Humphrey (New Richmond, Ohio/Cincinnati Hills Academy) and sophomore center Nicole Dickman (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) all finished just outside double-figures with eight points each. Noltemeyer led the Saints on the board with seven rebounds, while Dickman pulled down six boards.

Six Thomas More Men’s Soccer Student-Athletes Named All-PAC
(WEXFORD, Pa.) – Thomas More College had six men’s soccer student-athletes named All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) on Tuesday (November 18, 2008) by the Conference office.
Sophomore forward Aaron Osborne (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) was named to the first team All-PAC and senior midfielder David Megel (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) and junior forward Joey Tensing (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mt. Healthy) were named to the second team All-PAC. Osborne led the team Saints in scoring with 29 points on a team-high 15 goals and five assists. He took 63 shots, including 29 on goal in 18 matches. Megel was third on the team in scoring with 12 points as he had four goals and four assists. He took 32 shots, 10 of which were on goal in 18 matches. Tensing was second on the team with 21 points as she scored eight goals and had five assists. In 17 games played he took 21 shots, including 13 on goal.
Named honorable mention All-PAC was senior goalkeeper Matt Koopman (Pleasant Hill, Ohio/Newton), senior defender Bryan Dattilo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) and sophomore midfielder Dan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder). Koopman was 10-4 with eight shutouts in 15 matches played. He gave up only 11 goals and recorded 68 saves in 1,334 minutes of action. Dattilo helped anchor the Saints defense that only gave up 15 goals and held their opponents to 199 shots, while the Saints took 311. Miller appeared in only 13 matches and had nine points on two goals and five assists.
Six Thomas More Women’s Soccer Student-Athletes Named All-PAC
(WEXFORD, Pa.) – Thomas More College had six women’s soccer student-athletes named All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) on Tuesday (November 18, 2008) by the Conference office.
Three Saints were named first team All-PAC as freshman forward Lauren Wietmarschen (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley), freshman midfielder, freshman midfielder Taylor Stoll (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Villa Madonna) and sophomore midfielder Megan Hobbs (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) were all named to the team. Wietmarschen lead the Saints in scoring with 31 points on a team-high 12 goals and seven assists. She took 73 shots, including 37 on goal in the Saints’ 21 matches. Stoll was third on the team in scoring with 18 points on seven goals and four assists. She took 54 shots with 33 of them being on goal. Hobbs had 12 points as she had five goals and two assists this season.
Junior forward Deanna Goshdigian (Cincinnati, Ohio/Northwest) was named second team All-PAC, while junior defender Kristen DePaoli (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) and sophomore midfielder Alex Crouch (Cincinnati, Ohio/Reading) were named honorable mention All-PAC. Goshdigian was second on the team in scoring 19 points as she had eight goals and three assists in 18 matches played. DePaoli helped anchor the Saints’ defense that only gave up 15 points and held their opponents to 161 shots, while the Saints took 493 shots. Crouch was played in all 21 of the Saints’ matches this season and had three points as she had one goal and one assits.
The Saints finished the season 14-7 overall and won the PAC regular season with a 6-1 conference record.

Clifford Named Honorable Mention All-Region

(LEXINGTON, Ky.) – Thomas More College freshman setter Michelle Clifford (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) was named honorable mention All-Great Lakes Region today (Tuesday, November 18, 2008) by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).
Clifford appeared in 122 sets notching a Presidents’ Athletic Conference-high 1,269 set assists and also had 36 aces, 109 kills and 295 digs. Last week, she was named the PAC Freshman of the Year and was named First Team All-PAC.
Clifford and the Saints finished the 2008 season 28-6 overall and finished second in the PAC with an 11-3 conference record.

Hilvert Named Coach of the Year and 18 Saints Named All-PAC
(WEXFORD, Pa.) – Thomas More College head football Jim Hilvert was named Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Coach of the Year and 18 Saints were named All-PAC on Monday (November 17, 2008) by the Conference office.
Hilvert, in his second season at Thomas More, led the Saints to the 2008 PAC Title and earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Playoffs. He is 12-8 in his two seasons on the Saints’ sideline.
Seven Saints were named first team All-PAC as senior offensive lineman Greg Frey (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton), junior offensive lineman Sean Keith (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East), junior running back Cordario Collier (New Albany, Ind./New Albany), sophomore defensive lineman Tyler Owens (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands), sophomore linebacker Matt Clark (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas), junior linebacker Brad Steinmetz (West Harrison, Ind./East Central) and sophomore defensive back Martez Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) were all named to the team. Frey and Keith helped anchor the offensive line that has only given up a PAC-best 10 sacks, while clearing the way for the Saints to rush the ball 417 times for a PAC-leading 2,452 yards (245.2 yards per game). Collier is second on the team in rushing yards and receiving yards as he has carried the ball a team-high 116 times for 657 yards (65.7 ypg.) and has caught 34 passes for 378 yards (38.7 ypg.). Owens has 32 tackles this season, including a team-high nine sacks which also ranks second in the PAC. Clark is second on the team with 82 tackles, including seven tackles for a loss and six pass break ups. Steinmetz leads the team with 85 tackles, including a team-leading 17 for a loss and also has recorded seven sacks and one interception. Williams is third on the team in tackles with 61, including four for a loss and has also recorded an interception.

Garrigus and Lageman are part of the Saints’ offensive front that has helped the Saints rush for a PAC-best 2,452 yards and has only given up a PAC-leading 10 sacks. Stellman is 126-of-206 passing for 1,572 yards (157.2 ypg.) and 10 touchdowns, while only throwing two interceptions. He is also third on the team in rushing as he has carried the ball 95 times for 462 yards (46.2 ypg.) and eight touchdowns. Smith has 37 tackles this season, including seven for a loss of 20 yards and has two sacks for 13 yards. Owens has 381 return yards as he has returned 10 kickoffs for 217 yards and has returned 17 punts for 164 yards.

Dew is the Saints’ top receiver catching a team-leading 45 passes for 515 yards (51.5 ypg.) for seven touchdowns. Barimah has recorded 18 tackles, including five for a loss and two sacks, while also recovering a fumble. Kohrs is fourth on the team with 60 tackles, including eight for a loss and four sack sacks. Begley has 45 tackles and has also recovered a fumble and returned it 40 yards. Monk is fifth on the team with 56 tackles, including three for loss and a sack, while also recording one interception and a fumble recovery.
The Saints will be in action this Saturday (November 22, 2008) when they travel to Naperville, Illinois to play No. 2-ranked North Central College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Football Championship Playoffs. The Saints and Cardinals kickoff at noon Central, 1 p.m. Eastern at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium.
