BOY'S SOCCER
SUMMIT STUDENT NAMED SCHOLAR ALL AMERICAN
Soccer Star Andrew Vance Among Top 35 In the Country
(HYDE PARK) – The Summit Country Day School is excited to announce that Senior Andrew Vance has received one of the highest of high school soccer achievements, as he was named a Scholar All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America today.
The NSCAA selects Scholar All-America teams for male and female athletes competing in soccer at the NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NCCAA and High School levels. To be nominated to become a Scholar All-America at the interscholastic level, a player must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 or better, must have demonstrated the highest level of excellence in soccer at the high school level, and must have performed service in his or her community.
“We are very proud of Andrew’s many accomplishments,” said Barnard Baker, Head Varsity Boys Coach. “I hope future Summit and Cincinnati soccer players emulate and model themselves after him.”
In 2010, Vance was named First Team All State in Division III Ohio. He also received First Team All Miami Valley Conference, All SW Ohio, and earned a spot on the NSCAA All Central Region Team. The Central Region Team consists of the best players in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and West Virginia. Vance also competed with the top area seniors in the Cincinnati All Star Game.
Honorees and their coaches are celebrated at the All America luncheon, honoring the year’s recipients, at the annual NSCAA convention. This year, the luncheon will be held in Baltimore, MD on Saturday, January 15, 2011. In the past ten years, only five other Cincinnati boy soccer players have received this honor. Past winners include Alex Priede (Summit, 2009), Nate Bascom (Madeira, 2007), Kyle Haungs (Summit, 2005), and Dan Schultz (Seven Hills, 2004).

SUMMIT COUNTRY DAY HIRES NEW LACROSSE COACH
Former St. Xavier Coach to Lead Silver Knights Program
(HYDE PARK) - The Summit Country Day School recently announced Pat Collura as the new Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach, effective immediately.
Prior to the announcement, Collura was the Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach at St. Xavier High School. He replaces his son Dan Collura, who now will serve as the team’s Assistant Varsity Coach. Pat is excited to be coaching alongside his son, adding to the successful program’s rich history. The Silver Knights won the OHSLA State Championship in 2006.
“Dan and I have been humbled by the opportunity to build this program together,” said Pat. “Everybody at Summit has been extremely gracious. We’re definitely looking forward to the lacrosse season.”
Pat Collura is in his ninth year of coaching high school lacrosse. He took over the St. Xavier lacrosse program in 2005, where he led the Bombers to four state Final Four appearances. Collura was named Ohio Coach of the Year in 2005, Man of the Year in 2000 and 2010, and Regional Coach of the Year in 2010.
“Coach Pat Collura brings a wealth of experience, expertise and success to The Summit,” said Greg Dennis, Athletic Director. "We are very excited to have Pat at the helm of one of the premier lacrosse programs in Cincinnati."
The Summit maintains a long-standing tradition of athletic success at the local, state and national levels. With state-of-the-art facilities, experienced coaches and dedicated student-athletes, The Summit is able to support 45 teams over a three-season athletic schedule in grades 7-12. In addition, a parent-run K-6 program provides an introduction to team sports. Over the past 10 years, 15% of Summit athletes have gone on to participate in university or college sports. More than 70% of the Upper School competes for one or multiple teams.
