Matt Fox Named Munoz Defensive Lineman Of The Year
Lakota West senior Matt Fox has accomplished a lot in his football career.
Last Tuesday, the 6'4" 230 pound defensive lineman signed a full scholarship to play football for Ball State University.
However, none of Fox's accolades on the football field may be as great as the one he received on Monday as Fox was named as the Anthony Munoz Foundation's Division I Defensive Lineman Of The Year.
The award keeps in alignment with the mission of the Munoz Foundation. In addition to great performance on the field, candidates have to show a level of academic success and community involvement.
Fox will receive the award at the Munoz Foundation ceremony on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at The Westin Cincinnati.
Congratulations to Matt and thank you for representing Lakota West!

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas - All-American setter Jenna Hagglund has been selected as one of the ten finalists for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for volleyball. This is the first year the award has been given out for volleyball, joining nine other Divison I sports. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
A preliminary list of 30 candidates was announced at the beginning of the season, and narrowed down to the final 10 by a media committee.
Husky fans are now asked to help out the cause, as fan voting accounts for one third of the final decision, as well as votes from coaches and media members. Fans can vote once daily from now until November 23 at www.seniorCLASSaward.com.
Hagglund, a native of West Chester, Ohio, currently ranks sixth nationally in assists per set with 11.92, as she has directed the offense for seventh-ranked Washington, which currently leads the NCAA in attack percentage with a mark of .325. Her 4,604 career assists are 11th-most in Pac-10 history and second-most in school history. As a four-year starter, she has led Washington to NCAAs every season, and an Elite Eight finish in 2008. Washington has been ranked in the Top-10 of the AVCA poll in all but one week during her entire career. She was named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Sept. 20, after being named MVP of the Pittsburgh Blue & Gold Tournament; the third weekly honor of her career.
A two-time All-American on the court, Hagglund has also excelled in the classroom. She is a two-time CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII team selection, and carries a 3.51 cumulative GPA in business administration. Hagglund has also done volunteer work at Seattle Children's Hospital as well as the Ronald McDonald House, and has served as the team's representative to the Washington Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (WSAAC) for two years, a post selected by her teammates.
