SPRING SIGNING EVENT

EAST HONORS SPRING ATHLETIC SIGNEES



Liberty Township, OHIO – The Lakota East Athletic Department set aside time on Wednesday morning to recognize another group of seniors who will continue their playing days at the next level. Family, friends, coaches, teachers, administrators and students were present to witness the achievements of 14 Thunderhawks who have made formal commitmentstoplay their sport on the collegiate stage. The signings represented thousands of dollars in scholarship money for East high school student- athletes at colleges and universities around the country. The signees were treated to breakfast, a commemorative signing document and then were individually introduced and recognized by East Athletic Director Rich Bryant. The athletes participating represented a sampling of 8 different boys and girl’s athletic teams.

The East baseball program produced 5 signees; Michael Bowman (Miami- Hamilton), Noah Buettgen (Lincoln Trail), Andrew Wills (Miami-Oxford), Korey Fishback (Lincoln Trail) and Jordan Ball (Miami-Hamilton). Soccer athletes accepting scholarships were; Matt Fleming (Ohio Northern), Katrina Echternacht (Carnegie Mellon) and Andi Martin, softball and soccer (Transylvania). The East football team recognized three recipients; Grant Keller (Georgetown), Stephen Donoghue, football and track (Wilmington) and Dan Baker, football and baseball (Wittenberg). Other signees recognized on Wednesday included; Brittany Grim, crew (George Washington) Stephen Humbert, track/cross country (Baldwin Wallace) and Casey Thompson, swimming (Wilmington).

It was great day to be a Thunderhawk! Congratulations to each athlete and family on this tremendous achievement in their lives.

SPRING SIGNING EVENTS

 

Mason  Athletes Take Step to Next Level

The Mason Athletic department hosted their spring college signing event on Tuesday afternoon, May 18th for 22 senior athletes that have made formal committments to play at the collegiate level.  Each athlete was presented with a commerative letter of intent before being recognized by their coach for the outstanding contributions and achievements they garnered during their careers at Mason.  A crowd of family, friends and teammates packed the school's Harvard Room to witness the signings.  The signees represented a sampling of 12 different boys and girls Mason athletic teams. 
 
The Comet Cross Country and Track programs acknowledged four athletes who were reciepients of college athletic scholarsdhips; Eric Hauser (UC), Daniel Scurry (UC), Matt Kahl (Kent State) and Matt Larcomb (NKU).  Football signees included; Dalton Gillispie (Missouri S&T), Maison Kana (KY Wesleyan), Tyler Plank (Capital) and Jake White (Centre College).  Boys and girls lacrosse signees were Joshua Puckett (Indiana Tech), Jamie Swigart (Tiffin) and Chole Colton (Alvernia).  The boys and girls soccer teams saw a trio of athletes make committments; Caleb Eastham (Cleveland State), Corey Campbell (Earlham) and Stephanie Gort (Ohio University).  Comet baseketball and volleyball teams each had a pair of signees;  Ryan O'Shaughnessey (Mt. Union), Hilliary Melnick (Indiana Tech), Sanaya El-Naggar (Capital) and Ashley Wales (Capital). 
 
Other signings included; Lyndsey McCall, golf (Grambling State), Rhett Durbin, baseball (Capital), and Taylor Edwards, diving (East Carolina).  Chuck Hammond became the first-ever Mason bowler to receive a scholarship to Notre Dame College. 
 
Not present for the event, but also making formal college committments included; Christin Miller, softball (Ohio Northern), Olivia Hutchison, softball (Wilmington) and DeVonte Walker, football (KY Wesleyan. 
 
Earlier this year 18 other  Comet athletes announced their collegiate athletic intentions.

COLLEGE SIGNING

Archbishop Moeller has announced more college commitments from the 2010 class.

TYLER VISAGIE has committed to play football at Wittenberg University.  He will play defensive end under Head Coach Joe Fincham.  Tyler participated in Moeller’s Exchange Student Program and Shanty Town.  Tyler maintains honors and a 3.4 GPA.  Tyler is the son of Steve and Ranette Visagie of Anderson Township.

KEVIN BRENNAN has committed to play baseball at Capital University.  He will pitch for Head Coach Ryan Grice.  Brennan participated in Moeller Baseball for four years.  Kevin maintains 3.3 GPA.  Kevin is the son of Brian and Mary Pat Brennan of Mason.

TYLER GRAU has committed to play baseball at Wittenberg University.  He will play third-base and pitch for Head Coach Jay Lewis.  He participated in Moeller Baseball for four years and Corryville Catholic Little Buddies.  Tyler maintains honors and a 3.7 GPA.  Tyler is the son of Tom and Teri Grau of Reading.

Northwest High School recently announced college football commitments from the 2010 class.

Defensive lineman Kirby Famble (5-11, 230) has committed to Malone University.

Four Mount St. Joseph commitments include wide receiver/linebacker Samuel Fowler (5-11, 175), linebacker Carl Huber (5-11, 185), defensive back Darius Murray (5-10, 160) and defensive back John Son (5-9, 160).

Wide receiver Ishmael Allen (5-11, 175) has committed to Grand Rapids Community College.


ELDER
FOOTBALL

Elder senior middle linebacker Nick Ambeliotis has committed to Robert Morris, according to ScoutingOhio.com.

He had 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery for the Panthers this past season, according to the GCL website.

MILFORD
GIRL'S BASKETBALL

Milford senior Jennifer Trame has signed her letter of commitment to play golf for the College of Mount St. Joseph.  Her major will be social work.  Jennifer played varsity golf for the Eagles for 4 years (2006, ’07, ’08, and ’09).  She received the Most Improved Player Award in 2007, the Eagle Award (for hard work, dedication and discipline) in 2008, and the Most Valuable Player Award in 2009.  She was 1st team All-FAVC for three seasons (2007, ’08, and ’09).  Her team earned the FAVC Buckeye Championship in 2007 (a first-ever league championship in girls’ golf at Milford).

NATIONAL SIGNING DAY

LAKOTA EAST HOSTS WINTER COLLEGE SIGNING EVENT

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- The Lakota East Athletic department recognized nine seniors on National Letter of Intent Signing Day who have made college commitments during a special ceremony held at the high school on Wednesday, February 3rd. The early morning event was an opportunity to honor Thunderhawk athletes who have earned athletic scholarships and will continue their playing careers on the next level.



The list of signees included six girls soccer standouts: Kaitlyn Buczek (UC), Abby Buns (Air Force Academy), Andi Martin (Transylvania), Sammi Miller (Wilmington), Abbie Schauble (Ohio Northern) and Ashley Taylor (Aurora).

Additionally, three Thunderhawk gridiron standouts making official commitments were; Cory Keebler (UC), Pedro Powell (Notre Dame College)  and Matt Luers (UD).

NATIONAL SIGNING DAY



        MASON ATHLETES RECOGNIZED AT SIGNING EVENT


MASON, Ohio -- The Mason Athletic department held their annual winter National Letter of Intent Signing Event on Wednesday, February 3rd in the high school’s Harvard Room.  Family, friends, coaches, teachers, administrators and students were present to witness the achievements of 18 Mason seniors who have made formal commitments to play their sport at the collegiate level.  The signings represented thousands of dollars in scholarship money for Mason high school student-athletes at colleges and universities around the country.  

“It is such an accomplishment for any athlete to have the opportunity to play intercollegiate sports,” said Mason Athletic Director Scott Stemple.  “The athletes, coaches and especially their parents should be extremely proud of this honor.”

The Mason girl’s soccer team produced 5 signees:  Courtney Hoenicke (St. Bonaventure), Kristin Leist (Indiana University), Heather Jung (Tennessee Martin), Megan Frye (NKU), and Kimberly Connor (Ohio Northern).  

The Comet Swimming program acknowledged four athletes who are receiving athletic scholarships;  Cari Caprio (Tulane), Danielle Jansen (UNC), Kayla Wiemers (Toledo), and Simonne Dubois (Tufts).  Additionally, Alex Bollman signed to play water polo at Gannon University.

Two lacrosse standouts signed letters of intent:  Scott Spencer (New York Tech) and Cody Nolan (College of Mt. St. Joe).  Wrestling State Champion Robert Shepherd made his formal commitment to Ivy League Princeton University.  Scott Klever signed for baseball with Xavier University.  Colleen Raga committed to Adelphi University of New York for volleyball.  

Other signings included; Nick Wehby, football, (Indianapolis), Chelsea Hoffmaster, cross country and track, (Xavier) and girls basketball standout, Kayla Lamotte (Morehead State).

Loveland senior kicker/punter Matt Eltringham (6-1, 200) has signed to play at Hillsdale College in Michigan. Hillsdale is a Division II NCAA football program.

Athletic Director Chuck Grosser announced today that two Finneytown High School senior athletes will sign National Letters of Intent (NLI) during a ceremony and reception on National Signing Day, February 3, 2010. Students, parents, staff and community members are invited to the NLI signing ceremony in the Finneytown High School Media Center at 3:15 p.m.

Congratulations go out to Alexandra Murphy, women's soccer, who will be attending Georgia Southern University; Ben Steinnecker, men's soccer, who will sign a Letter of Intent for Cincinnati State College.

During Alex's career she has amassed numerous awards including being named to 1st Team All-Cincinnati Hills League during her freshman, junior and senior years.  She was name Cincinnati Enquirer Honorable Mention for her freshman, junior and senior years. She was named All City-All District (Southwest) in her junior and senior years.  As a forward she broke the school record for Most Goals in a Career (63), Most Assist in Career (21), and Most Goals in a Season (24).  She is Varsity Forward of the Year for the 2009-2010 season.  She is the daughter of Jim and Vicki Murphy.

Ben Steinnecker was named Cincinnati Hills League Academic for his freshman, sophomore and senior years. He moved up from 2nd Team All-League (junior year) to 1st Team All-League for his senior year. He was named 1st Team All-Southwest/All City during his junior and senior years. Ben was selected to play goalie in the All-Star game at Princeton High School his senior year.  Ben's parents are Kathy and Mike Viola.

MOELLER ANNOUNCES STUDENTS’ SIGNINGS OF NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT

ANDREW HENDRIX has committed to play football for Coach Brian Kelly at the University of Notre Dame.  Andrew was the quarterback for the Crusaders for the 2009 football season.  He has maintained first honors and carries a 3.8 GPA.  Andrew has received All GCL, Rivals 250, and is rated the #1 quarterback in Ohio.  Andrew participated in the Offense/Defense All American Game on January 3, 2010.  He was a co-captain of the 2009 Moeller Football team.  Andrew participates in Christmas on Campus, serves as camp counselor for summer camps, and is a speaker for the admissions office.  He was a member of the 2009 Moeller State Championship Baseball team.  Andrew is the son of Rick and Jennifer Hendrix of Blue Ash.

MARCUS RUSH has committed to play football at Michigan State where he will play for Coach Mark Dantanio.  Marcus played defensive end for the Crusaders 2009 football team.  Marcus has received Rivals.com Ohio Midseason Top 75 (40), Ohio Varsity Top 100, First Team All Ohio, First Team All GCL, First Team All Tri-State, and Hit-Man Award for the 2009 football season.  He was co-captain for the Crusaders this year.  Rush received a nomination to play in the Big 33 and North South Game.  Marcus has maintained second honors and has a 3.5 GPA. He participates in Little Buddies and Christmas on Campus.  Marcus is the son of John and Ginny Rush of Blue Ash.

DAVID SCHNEIDER has committed to play football at Ball State under the direction of Head Coach Brady Hoke.  David played the position of tight end at Moeller and will continue at that position at Ball State.  David has received First Team All GCL, MVP for the Crusaders 2008 football season, Honorable Mention All City, Honorable Mention All Tri-State, and was a co-captain for the 2009 Crusader season.  David carries a 3.7 GPA and participates in many activities at Moeller: Christmas on Campus, trainer in weight room, intramural basketball, camp counselor, Make a Difference Day, FR and JV basketball.  David is the son of Phil and Mary Carole Schneider of Evendale.

JEFF TANNER has committed to play football at Miami University.  Jeff will play left tackle under Head Coach Michael Haywood.  Jeff has received First Team All GCL, MVP for the Crusaders 2008 season, First Team All Tri-State, Honorable Mention All-City.  Jeff will play in the Big 33 and North South Game.  Jeff was a co-captain for the 2009 Crusaders.  He participates in intramural basketball and serves as a summer camp counselor and trainer in the weight room.  Jeff maintains second honors and a 3.3 GPA.  Jeff is the son of Jeff and Karen Tanner of Maderia.

NICK GALVIN has committed to play football for Coach Bill Cubit at Western Michigan University.  Galvin played linebacker for the 2009 Crusaders and will play linebacker for Western Michigan.  Nick has received several football honors during the past 3 years as a Moeller starter: First Team All GCL, Second Team All GCL, Second Team All City, All Region Honorable Mention, and All State.  Galvin maintains a 3.0 GPA.  Nick is the son of Tim and Michelle Galvin of Blue Ash.

ALI KOUMEL KASSEM has committed to play football for Coach Bill Cubit at Western Michigan University.  An offensive lineman for the 2009 Crusaders, Ali will play offensive tackle for Western Michigan. Kassem is a four-year player for the Moeller Football program and is a member of the vocal ensemble.  Ali is the son of Koumel and Sharon Kassem of Hyde Park.

GARRETT MIZE has committed to play football at the University of Charleston.  Mize will play linebacker for Head Coach Tony DeMeo.  Garrett played linebacker for the 2009 Crusaders.  Garrett has received First Team All GCL and Honorable Mention All District.  He participates in Little Buddies, Pastoral Ministry Food Drive, and Christmas on Campus.  Garrett maintains second honors and a 3.7 GPA.  Garrett is the son of Jeff and Jennifer Mize of Lebanon.

PATRICK JONES has committed to play baseball at Xavier University, where he will play for Head Coach Scott Googins.  Patrick played outfield for the 2009 State Championship Baseball team and is ranked 11th in the state of Ohio and 289th in the nation by Perfect Game.  Patrick has maintained a 3.3 GPA and belongs to MACH 1, Little Buddies, and Moeller’s Men’s Chorus.  Patrick is the son of Allan Jones and Lanie Spaedy of Paddock Hills.

KEVIN THAMANN has committed to play baseball at the University of Dayton under Head Coach Tony Vittorio.  Thamann played infield for the 2009 State Championship Baseball team and has received Second Team GCL, Honorable Mention All City, and played for Team Ohio in the Midwest Classic.  Kevin is a two-year varsity letterman in baseball and one-year in football.   Kevin participates in Moeller’s Men’s Vocal Ensemble and is a youth football coach for the Golden Bears.  Kevin has maintained second honors and has a 3.3 GPA.  Kevin is the son of Jerry and Laura Thamann of Sycamore Township.

JOE BUSAM has committed to play lacrosse at The College of Mount Saint Joseph.  Busam will play under Head Coach Pat Kennedy.  Busam plays defense and long-stick middie for the Crusaders and will continue at that position for Mount Saint Joseph.  In the 2009 season, Busam received Second Team All Midwest, First Team All Region, Honorable Mention All Ohio.  Busam is one of the tri-captains for the 2010 Crusaders team.  Joe maintains second honors and has a 3.6 GPA.  Joe participates in Kid’s Café, Down Syndrome Night, Community Land Cooperative, Camp Counselor, service trip to Solsberry, Indiana for flood relief.  Joe is the son of Edward and Pamela Busam of Mason.

ST. URSULA
NATIONAL COLLEGE SIGNINGS

St. Ursula Academy announced 10 seniors will sign  their national letters of intent to play college sports. The following athletes include:

Amber Bledsoe of Withamsville, has committed to play Division I Soccer at Brown University

Aubrey Bledsoe of Withamsville, has committed to play Division I Soccer at Wake Forest University

Elizabeth Burchenal of Terrace Park, has committed to play Division I Soccer for The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill

Mariella Grote of Mt. Washington, has committed to play Division I Field Hockey at Indiana University

Emily Gruesser of Mt. Lookout, has committed to play Division I Field Hockey at Miami University

Hailey Hemmer of East Walnut Hills, has committed to play Division I Soccer at Saint John’s University in Queens, NY.

Nicole King of Mt. Lookout, has committed to play Division I Soccer at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA.

Sydney Kurz of Hyde Park, has committed to play Division I Soccer at the University of Dayton

Courtney Motz of Anderson Township, has committed to join the Division I Equestrian Team at Texas Christian University

Kristin Pierce of Loveland, has committed to play Division I Soccer with Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI)
