10 Questions with Troy Tabler
Wright State guard Troy Tabler will be a senior this upcoming season for the Raiders. He averaged 8.9 points and 1.8 rebounds last season. Tabler, the son of former Major League Baseball player Pat Tabler, is playing in his fourth year of the summer league. Troy is majoring in Organizational Leadership at Wright State and would like to work in sales in the future. Tabler spoke with to our staff before the season started:
Q: What do you expect from the Deveroes Summer League?
A: This is the first time a couple of my teammates will be playing. Hopefully with good competition that will help improve our team.
Q: How has your game improved from a year ago?
A: This past spring, I have really worked on attacking guys off the dribble. I have the (3-point shot) and can make free throws. The way to get to the line is to draw fouls and get to the hole.
Q: What do you like most about playing in the Deveroes Summer League?
A: The players. I mean each game there is so many talented (players) on both sides of the court. You will get some good games with high level competition and people trying to win.
Q: You helped lead Moeller to a Division I state title during your senior year. What is your favorite memory of playing at Moeller?
A: Obviously winning state my senior year. Also going out there (on the court) the first time as a sophomore. Also, my senior night – beating our rival St. X. I think it was my career-high in points (28 or 29).
Q: What other sports do you enjoy watching or playing?
A: Baseball or soccer. I loved the FIFA soccer video games on Xbox. I have been following the World Cup.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: Steak with mashed potatoes.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: I like The Departed.
Q: What other pro teams do you like to follow?
A: I follow the Bengals and Toronto Blue Jays. (Pat is a former Toronto player and won a World Series with the Blue Jays in 1992. He is a TV commentator with the team).
Q: Do you have a pre-game routine in order to mentally prepare for a game?
A: Not necessarily, but I always eat pancakes before every game.
Q: What is the best advice you received from your father?
A: He always just said play hard and smart.
