10 Questions with Tu Holloway
Ten questions with Xavier junior guard Terrell Holloway. He averaged 12.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and had a team-leading 138 assists (3.9 per game) for the Musketeers last season. He scored a career-high 26 points along with six assists and two steals in the regional semifinal against Kansas State in the NCAA Tournament. Here is a Q&A as told to the tournament staff:
Q: How did you get the nickname “Tu” and what does it mean?
A: When I was younger (four or five years old) I used to be called Tu-Tu. Now, I am 20 so it’s Tu. It was a friend in a barbershop that gave me the name.
Q: You led XU in assists per game last season and finished sixth in the A-10. What type of awareness do you have of your teammates’ positions on the floor at all times?
A: I’m a point guard and used to be a quarterback my sophomore year in high school so I know where guys are all the time. I have to be familiar with putting guys in the right position.
Q: You led the A-10 in free-throw shooting at 84.6 percent last season. How much do you practice free-throws and how many will you shoot on a given day in the summer?
A: We have practice between drills. Every game day I shoot 100 free throws. In the summer, I shoot 100 free throws a day. Ever since I was a kid I have been a pretty good free-throw shooter.
Q: What are you looking forward to the most with the Deveroes Summer League?
A: Just being able to play basketball. The college season is more like a job because there is so much pressure. I am person that loves basketball and I go out and have fun and just try to win when I play.
Q: How has your game improved from a year ago?
A: After my freshman I was able to understand the game and be more of a leader. My teammates rely on me more since my freshman year. Everything I did last year – is to just to be more consistent (this year). With Jordan (Crawford leaving for the NBA) there is more weight on my shoulders to lead the team not in only in scoring but every reason.
Q: What can XU fans expect from you this upcoming season?
A: XU started a winning tradition well before I got here. The fans know what they are getting from me with just winning and toughness.
Q: How much do you still think of the Kansas State game? Have you ever played in a game similar to that?
A: I think of that game every day since I played. I am always person watches games. I think of Kansas State and every other game daily. I never played in a game similar to that on the college level. Back in New York , there were double and triple overtime games.
Q: Favorite pro sports team(s) and why?
A: I like the Lakers. I am a big Kobe Bryant fan. I just like Kobe . Just like the best – he is just like Michael Jordan to me. I like the Dallas Cowboys and no reason why. I also like the New York Yankees.
Q: Favorite movie?
A: Paid in Full.
Q: Favorite food?
A: No favorite. I like Powerade as a sports drink.
Q: Do you have a pre-game routine? If so, what is it?
A: My only routine is being very nervous before games – not worried – but just some nervousness. I listen to music, a lot of Jay-Z.
