Cincinnati State Surge defeat South Suburban Community College

The Cincinnati State men's basketball team won 87-72 against South Suburban Community College, a team ranked No. 4 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association's national poll.
Freshman Thomas Jackson led the Surge to its 7th win in a row with 21 points, all coming in the second half. Jackson, who is currently the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference "Player of the Week," went 5 for 7 from the field, 10 for 10 from the free throw line, while recording 7 assists. Sophomore Charles Clarke finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman forward D'Wayne Bazemore followed Clarke with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Marquis Wilson, who currently ranks 2nd in the country in steals per game, finished with 5 to go along with 12 points. Anton Hutchins chipped in with 11 points as the Surge claimed their 3rd win in four games against a team ranked No. 15 or higher in the NJCAA national poll.
Improving to 21-6 on the year with a 8-2 record in the OCCAC, the Surge will return to action on the road against Sinclair Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Cincinnati State Lady Surge win in overtime over rival Owens Community College

The Cincinnati State women's basketball team defeated Owens Community College 86-77 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.
In a game featuring two of the top ranked teams in junior college, No. 5 Owens, who lost to the Surge in overtime on Jan. 21, claimed a 45-35 halftime lead over No. 2 Cincinnati State. Cincinnati State's Asia Dillingham led the Surge comeback, finishing the game with 16 points, including a 2-pointer off the glass to send the game into overtime. In overtime, the Surge outscored Owens 15-4 to claim the 9 point conference victory. Brittiney Latimer, Kanesha McLean, and Dominique Fischer each finished with 14 points. Taylor Frazier scored 13 and blocked 6 Owens shot attempts. Frazier and Latimer tied for the game high with 12 rebounds.
Improving to 26-1 with a perfect 10-0 record in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference, Cincinnati State, who now has a 2-game lead over Owens in the OCCAC standings, will return to action on the road against Sinclair Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Cincinnati State wins at home against Owens

The Cincinnati State men's basketball team defeated Owens Community College 80-66 on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Anton Hutchins came off of the bench to lead all scorers with 20 points along with 3 steals. Freshman Thomas Jackson finished with 13 points and 7 assists. Backup point guard Jazel Garret recorded 5 steals and scored 11, followed by D'Wayne Bazemore and Charles Clarke, who each scored 10 points.
Currently in first place in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference with an 8-2 record and a 20-6 record overall, Cincinnati State will return to action at home on Monday, Feb. 20 in a non-conference matchup against South Suburban Community College. South Suburban enters the game ranked No. 4 in the National Junior College Athletic Association's national poll. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.

Surge claim first place in conference with road win at Columbus State

The Cincinnati State men's basketball team beat Columbus State 103-89 on Wednesday night to claim a 1/2 game lead in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference standings.
Cincinnati State point guard Thomas Jackson led the Surge to victory with 32 points on 10 for 13 shooting from the field and 10 for 10 from the free throw line. Shooting guard Marquis Wilson finished with 19 points followed by Anton Hutchins with 14 and D'Wayne Bazemore with 13.
On their way to the top of the OCCAC standings, the Surge have won all five conference road games this season. With the latest road win over Columbus State, a team ranked No. 5 in the National Junior College Athletic Association's national poll, Cincinnati State improves to 19-6 with a 7-2 conference record. Cincinnati State will return home to play Owens Community College on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 3:00 pm.

Cincinnati State scores 100 points in road win over Columbus State

The Cincinnati State women's basketball team earned a 100-60 road win against Columbus State on Wednesday night.
Five players finished with double-figure scoring nights. Sophomore guard Dominique Fischer, the reigning National Junior College Athletic Association's "Player of the Week," led the Surge with 17 points. Center Taylor Frazier finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Freshmen Allayah Craighead and Kanesha McLean came off the bench to score 11 points each. Point guard DeDe Henry chipped in with 10 points and 8 assists.
Improving to 25-1 overall with a perfect 9-0 record in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference, Cincinnati State, a team currently ranked No. 2 in the National Junior College Athletic Association's national poll, will return home to play No. 6 Owens Community College on Saturday, Feb. 18. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm.

Cincinnati State's Dominique Fischer named NJCAA "National Player of the Week"
The National Junior College Athletic Association has named Cincinnati State's Dominique Fischer the "National Player of the Week."
The 5'7 shooting guard, who received the same honor from the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference a week ago, led the Surge to three victories over Edison Community College, Lakeland Community College and Miami University- Hamilton to earn the NJCAA honor this week.
Against Edison on Wednesday, Feb. 8, Fischer led all scorers with 14 points to go along with 5 steals as the Surge won 70-58. In a 75-68 win on the road against Lakeland Community College on Saturday, Feb. 11, Fischer finished with a game high 23 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Fischer led the Surge in scoring for the third straight game on Sunday, Feb. 12 against Miami-Hamilton with 25 points. She also led the Surge defensively with 7 steals.
For the week, Fischer averaged 20.7 points while shooting a perfect 100% from the free throw line. The Flint, Michigan native from Flint-Southwestern High School currently leads the No. 2 ranked Surge in scoring with 15.4 points per game.

Cincinnati State's Cody Martin awarded Men's OCCAC Basketball "Player of the Week"
Cincinnati State forward Cody Martin has been voted the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference's latest "Player of the Week."
In the Surge’s only conference matchup of the week, Martin came off of the bench to score a game high 19 points to go along with 11 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals as the Surge claimed a 29 point victory over Sinclair Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 1. A freshman from Cleveland Heights High School in Cleveland, Ohio, Martin is averaging 9.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
"Cody is guy who will get six to eight points per game just off of his hustle and rebounding in the paint. It is very rare to find a freshman who rebounds as well as he does."
Currently at 18-6 overall with a 6-2 record in the OCCAC, Cody Martin and the Surge's next game will be on the road against Columbus State Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 15. After Columbus State's loss to Cuyahoga Community College on Saturday, Feb. 11, both teams enter Wednesday's game tied for first place in the OCCAC with identical 6-2 records.

Cincinnati State women's basketball team wins 80-49 over Miami University-Hamilton

The Cincinnati State Lady Surge defeated Miami University - Hamilton 80-49 on Sunday.
Sophomore guard Dominique Fischer led the Surge in scoring for the 4th straight game with 25 points while converting 9 of 15 shot attempts from the field. She also finished with a game high 7 steals. Taylor Frazier recorded 14 points and 14 rebounds. Brittiney Latimer came off the bench to score 12 points along with 12 rebounds. Kara McLemore finished with 11 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.
Improving to 24-1 overall with an 8-0 record in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference, Cincinnati State, a team currently ranked No. 2 in the National Junior College Athletic Association's national poll, will travel to face Columbus State Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 15.

Cincinnati State men's basketball win on the road against Lakeland Community College
Cincinnati State defeated Lakeland Community College 74-62 on the road.
Lakeland, who beat Cincinnati State 81-73 on Jan. 14, entered the game ranked No. 15 in the National Junior College Athletic Associaiton's national poll.
In Saturday's rematch, sophomore Marquis Wilson led Cincinnati State with 17 points. Forward Karriem Baker recorded 16 points and 14 rebounds. Freshman Thomas Jackson, who did not play in the loss to Lakeland last month, finished with 15 points and 7 assists. Charles Clarke scored 14 points.
Improving to 18-6 overall with a 6-2 record in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference, Cincinnati State will return to action on the road against Columbus State Community College on Wednesday, Feb. 15. After Columbus State's loss to Cuyahoga Community College on Saturday, both teams enter Wednesday's game tied for first place in the OCCAC with identical 6-2 records.

Cincinnati State came back from a 10 point deficit at halftime to defeat Lakeland Community College 75-68 on the road.
Sophomore guard Dominique Fischer led the Surge with 25 points. Point guard DeDe Henry scored 14 points. Kara McLemore finished with 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals. Asia Dillingham chipped in 9 points and led the team in rebounding with 10.
With the win, the Surge improve to 23-1 overall with an 8-0 record in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference. Cincinnati State. a team currently ranked No. 2 in the National Junior College Athletic Association's national poll, will return home to face Miami-Hamilton at 1:00 pm on Sunday, Feb. 12.

Cincinnati State guard Thomas Jackson records triple-double in victory over Edison Community College

Cincinnati State point guard Thomas Jackson recorded Cincinnati State's first triple-double of the season in a 106-77 win at home against Edison Community College.
Jackson, a freshman from Louisville, Kentucky, finished with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Sophomore guard Marquis Wilson led all scorers with 27 points. Wilson, who currently sits tied at the top of the standings in steals amongst all junior college players, recorded 6 on the night. Forward Karriem Baker scored 13 points to go along with 12 rebounds, which marked his team leading 12th double-double performance of the season.
Now at 17-6 with a 5-2 record in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference, Cincinnati State will return to action on the road against Lakeland Community College on Saturday, Feb. 12. Lakeland enters the game ranked No. 15 in the National Junior College Athletic Association's national poll.

Cincinnati State women win by twelve over Edison Community College
The Cincinnati State women's basketball team won 70-58 over Edison Community College on Wednesday night.

The five Cincinnati State starters accounted for 52 of the Surge's 70 points led by Dominique Fischer with 14. Fischer also led the Surge on defense with 5 steals. Following Fischer in scoring were sophomore Asia Dillingham and DeDe Henry, who each had 13 points. Center Taylor Frazier recorded a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Defensively, Frazier kept Edison's Brianna Innocent, one of junior college's top scorers, to 13 points on 4 of 13 from the field. Frazier also blocked 6 Edison shot attempts which included three on Innocent. Kara McLemore finished with 9 points and 4 steals to round out Cincinnati State's starters.
Improving to 22-1 overall with a 7-0 record in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference, Cincinnati State, a team currently ranked No. 2 in the National Junior College Athletic Association's national poll, will travel to face Lakeland Community College on Saturday, Feb. 11 before returning home to face Miami-Hamilton on Sunday, Feb. 12th.
